Dearest J.,
I received the most unusual comment (see the following paragraph) from J. at paydaytown.com in regard to letter L2D1242009: I’m Your Puppet?. I’m not exactly sure what it means. However, s/he does posit an interesting question in regard to love and relationships. S/he states, “It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: The two most common elements in the Universe are hydrogen and stupidity.”

I thought the most common elements in the Universe are hydrogen and helium. Apparently the periodic table is wrong. I wonder what the chemical symbol for stupidity would be? Given the word comes from the Latin stupiditas I assume it would be St. I also have to wonder if St would be a solid, liquid or gas? Most likely a gas given its apparent ubiquity in the Universe presently.
While I appreciate J.’s compliment in regard to the letter written and my ability to make my point effectively. As I attempt to parse the deeper meaning of J.’s comment, I’m unsure as to who s/he feels has been the perpetrator or victim of stupidity in the context of the situation presented in the letter. Or perhaps J.’s statement implies the situation was a moment of combined and complicit ignorance on the part of both individuals. Given I hadn’t the ability to read D.’s mind in the situation in which we found ourselves a year ago. And only had the ability to understand (or have a lack thereof) as to what happened through his words and behavior. I can only speak to my contribution to the impasse in which we found ourselves in that moment and my viewpoint as to what happened.
Upon shortly after meeting D. and spending some time with him it became very apparent to me that at the very least he suffered from a somewhat severe social anxiety disorder. As I’ve mentioned in a previous letter to him. I thought very little of it and just figured it was part of his personality. Given it seemed he was a “good guy” as the ubiquitous “they” would say. I thought it was something that he and I could work together toward developing ways to cope within our budding friendship/relationship. So rather than 86 him off the board right away as being too much work, or whatever, I made the choice to continue to make the effort to get to know him further.
However, the further I ventured into the adventure of getting to know him it became ever more obvious to me each step of the way his difficulties may have been greater than merely a generalized or specific social anxiety disorder and perhaps he might be a high functioning Aspie. Or at the very least, he was in deep denial about whatever challenges he may face in regard to social anxiety. Again, being firmly aware of this I continued to work toward getting to know him rather than “cut bait” as I thought I saw in him a great potential partner, all challenges aside. This provided he would be willing to put forth the effort necessary to work through those challenges together. Obviously, it proved to be far more of an effort than he was willing to commit.
There is an interesting quirk to my personality which is we are often attracted to those viewed as less than keepers by most. We’re the folks who typically see something in such persons that most people aren’t able to appreciate or understand. Of course, the irony with D. is he continually expressed the feeling he was being judged by me. Which could not have been further from the truth. While I at moments I became frustrated with him, and descended into behavior that would be classically termed “bitchy”. I never passed judgment upon him. I am acutely aware any judgments he may felt were completely of his own making.
However, as I’ve expressed in more than one letter. This does not lessen the desire I have to see or speak with him again.
So perhaps love is less synonymous with stupidity and more the country cousin to hydrogen. In that it is just as abundant in the Universe but nearly as combustible as well. However, when tempered and cared for properly can sustain life and promote growth. I am hopeful there is a gentleman on the horizon soon to be a new arrival in my life who understands this and is in a place to create a life together base on this mutual understanding.
Perhaps if J. continues to read these letters s/he’ll drop me an email. I’d love hear his or her thoughts.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
